This year at Primus, we're celebrating our 125th year, and we couldn't be more proud of where we came from, what we've accomplished, and where we're headed. Since 1892, Primus products have set the standard for quality outdoor cooking gear, and our stoves have been part of thousands of trips into nature, from family car camping to the top of Mt. Everest.
Primus gear has withstood nature's most difficult tests, and this year we celebrate the even more challenging test of time. A lot has changed since Primus first started 125 years ago. Exploration was thriving in the 1890s, with parties making brave expeditions to the North Pole and into the Alps, and yet the outdoor equipment they used was nothing like the gear we have today.
The product that put Primus on the map (way back in 1892) was the first-ever smoke-free kerosene stove. Since then, the company has continued to use the most advanced technology available to meet the ever-evolving needs of mountaineers, explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
In 1897, Salomon August Andrée took a Primus stove with him on an expedition to the North Pole. Less than two decades later, a team led by Roald Amundsen reached the South Pole, also carrying a Primus stove. On their legendary expedition to the top of Mt. Everest in 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay cooked their food on a Primus stove.
Primus is proud to have been a part of famous expeditions and technological innovations over the years. But we're especially proud of our ongoing dedication to sustainability.
Ever since 1978, we've worked with several African countries to reduce wood burning in favor of cleaner fuel sources, and we're always looking for ways to create more efficient, environmentally responsible stoves. We're committed to developing ethical, sustainable practices at every stage of our products' life cycles, from sourcing materials to manufacturing, product handling, recycling, and waste management. We've always aimed to create long-lasting, reliable products that also preserve the health and beauty of the world they're designed to help you explore.
As we look back at the many years of sustainable growth we've created at Primus, we feel proud to have shared this journey with customers who are unafraid to venture into the unknown, full of enthusiasm for nature, adventure, and life. We hope that in learning a little bit more about our company, you'll feel proud to be part of a 125-year-old community of daring explorers. Thank you for being a part of the Primus family.
