How to Keep Your Family Active This Winter
With winter comes snow, frigid temperatures, family gatherings, and often cozy days spent inside. It’s no wonder that sometimes it can be difficult to stay active and get outside. Here are some ways you can keep moving with your family and embrace the cold weather.
Play in the Snow
So many fun activities revolve around snow that the whole family can enjoy. Bundle the kids up and take them outside, even if it’s just for a short amount of time. Children can build snowmen, create snow angels, help engineer snow forts with tunnels, and wage a friendly snowball fight. If the kids are old enough, you can even rent some ski gear and take them to the bunny slope at a local ski resort.
Dance Indoors
When the cold weather is too much to wrestle with, opt for getting active inside. You can start with a silly dance party or retreat to the T.V. room to play some interactive video games. Not all video games are bad; there are active video games that encourage and incorporate a lot of body movements, like Wii Sports Resort or Just Dance.
Find a class
Classes can be an excellent way to stay active without weathering the cold temperatures. Children can be registered for swimming at an indoor pool, indoor soccer, yoga, and martial arts. These activities keep kids both mentally and physically stimulated until the weather is warmer.
Get Outside
Though it might be cold, getting outside can become a warm endeavor. Take the opportunity to get out of town and drive to a trail. With the whole family hitting the trail, everyone will be sure to break a sweat in no time. Winter camping is also possible if you have the right equipment. Just be sure to end either adventure with some hot cocoa.
