At Primus, we believe that food tastes better outside, and we know that you are what you eat, so our team is always looking for ways to support fueling our bodies at home or in action.
Primus was lucky to discover Farm To Crag (F2C) during the International Climbers Festival in the summer of 2021 when we supplied stoves for them at the event. While helping prepare some tasty trailside bites for climbers competing in the event, I was able to connect and chat with one of the F2C co-founders Kate Rutherford. Our brief time together made me want to find out even more about F2C to see what they were all about. An organization dedicated to connecting climbers with local, sustainable farmers and resources for access to fresh food? My conclusion–YES AND MORE!
I continued communication over the next few months and Kate felt there was an opportunity for Primus to partner with F2C at their next event, the Yosemite Gathering II. Being surrounded by amazing climbers, farmers, chefs, brands, and people at the idyllic location of Raw Roots Farm just outside of Yosemite made me realize just how lucky I was to take part.
I went home refueled and reenergized to start shifting the way I think about where I gather food for my family. As I sit at my desk after catching up from being out of the office, I realize that I’m also excited to continue a relationship with the F2C community and want to make sure that the Primus family knows about this amazing organization and resource.
Being conscious of both the environment and our impact on it, Primus wants to help spread the word about what F2C is doing. We can hopefully expand their “Local Food Map” to reach past the crags and support outdoor activities globally. Also, we want to help provide easy-to-use resources so that we can better fuel adventures and support the growers, chefs, and communities that aid our natural resources.
This partnership combines Primus’ passion for fueling adventures with feeding people in the most sustainable way!
WHY FARM TO CRAG?
The mission of Farm To Crag is to transform our food system by connecting climbers with sustainable growers through local food sourcing tools and resources, community engagement, and peer-to-peer education.
As a volunteer-based organization, Farm To Crag relies on climbers and local communities and partner brands like Primus to help spread the word about why climbers (and the broader outdoor community) should care about and invest in local, sustainable agriculture. They believe that as climbers, they have an important role to play in being advocates for the wild and beautiful places that allow us to feel the connection with the land that sustains us. They believe that as climbers, they have a unique voice and responsibility to not only protect our public lands, but also our farmers who steward our nation’s resources and nourish bodies.
